"If you look past his murderous plots to overthrow Bluestar and destroy Firestar's credibility, you'll find a brave, skilled warrior, utterly committed to protecting his Clan, proud of his kits, respectful of his ancestors, and loyal to the things that are most important to him."
— Victoria Holmes, in Tigerstar: Heart of Evil?

Tigerstar: Heart of Evil? is an essay that was written by Victoria Holmes, explaining the different attributes of Tigerstar's character.

Detailed summary[]

Written by Victoria Holmes, this essay explores the reasons for Tigerstar's actions and debates whether or not he was truly evil, or simply misguided in his motives.
She begins by talking about Tigerstar as he appeared in the beginning of Into the Wild and comments on the inevitability of him being a villain, due to his appearance and attitude towards the hero, Firestar, then a kittypet named Rusty, even before any action had taken place. She says, "The scene was set for a classic tale of hero versus villain, ending in a bitter and bloody fight from which the hero emerges triumphant and the villain is, well, dead." Moving forward to the end of the The Prophecies Begin arc, this is not the case, however, Tigerstar is dead and there is a greater villain to deal with - Scourge.
She explains that things are never certain and that it all depends on individual point of view. Tigerstar seemed to be evil, and did some horrible things, yet StarClan still gave him his nine lives. "The cats in StarClan have never willfully done anything to damage the Clans before, so they must have had their reasons for allowing Tigerstar to become a leader." Tigerstar also had the support of the ShadowClan cats and Victoria suggests that perhaps he was not all bad from another point of view.
She describes him as a "brave, skilled warrior, utterly committed to protecting his Clan, proud of his kits, respectful of his ancestors, and loyal to the things that are most important to him." She also considers his teaching Firestar and the ways in which he helped to rebuild ShadowClan after Nightstar's death.
Although much was wrong with Tigerstar's path to power, Vicky claims here that he deserves to be respected for his skills as one of the greatest warriors of the forest, as well as punished for his crimes.
